Still Need to Sign Kids Up for Camp? It's Not Too Late

Maplewood Recreation is still accepting registrants for many camps.

If you're not one of those parents who has summer camp all sewed up by February, you may be in need of the following information.

has an array of local, reasonably priced camps to meet your last-minute needs. They include everything from math camp to pony grooming. Some haven't even begun yet.

Kids Kamp - Traditional day camp for children from Kindergarten to 5th Grade. (Child must be 5 by October 1, 2012.) Camp offers swimming, field activities and day trips. There are also arts and crafts and movie days. This program runs from June 25th to August 3rd, and will be run out of the Community Center this year. Half day and full day sessions available.

Summer Tennis Camp - Tennis camp offers children ages 6 to 14 a chance to learn and sharpen their tennis skills. Whether you’re a beginner or advance, the camp accommodates all skill levels. For more information go to www.maplewoodtennis.com

Budding Learners Reading and Math Camps - A fun “camp like” experience where campers will build on their math and reading skills in preparation for the upcoming school year. Each week will focus on a different theme (jungle, animals, sports, etc.). Classes will be held at the Burgdorff Cultural Center.

Reading classes will be held Mon - Fri; July 9 - 13 & Aug. 20 -24; 9:00 am to 11:30 am; Cost is $155.00.
Math classes will be held Mon - Fri; July 16 - July 20 & Aug. 27 -31: 9:00 am to 11:30 am; Cost is $160.00.

Reading & Math camp combination will be held to brush up on both reading and math together. Camp will be held Mon. July 30th to Fri. Aug. 1st. from 9:00 am to 11:30 am. Cost if $160 per child for the week.

Petite Equestrian Program - For children ages 3-7. An opportunity to learn all aspects of ponies, not just riding. Program will be held Monday thru Friday, July 16th to 20th from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm in Memorial Park; Cost $190.00.

Pony Grooming Riding Program - For children ages 7 to 13. The program teaches children how to deal with horses, from all aspects including grooming, riding, safety, etc.. Program is held July 16 to 20th from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm in Memorial Park.; Cost $230.00.

Art Explorations - Travel the world through arts and crafts. Each week, children from ages 4 to 8, will work on arts and crafts projects inspired by different countries throughout the world. Program begins on June 25, and runs Monday through Friday for 10 weeks. Cost is $85.00 per week. Class is held at Dehart Community Center, 120 Burnett Ave.

Special Needs Pool Party - Geared toward the children of the Maplewood-South Orange special needs community. On September 8th, a day of food, fun and games, and swimming will be held from 11 am to 1 pm. No cost to participants.
