The celebration capped off a in Maplewood that asked participants to "find" Waldo in local businesses. Anyone who collected 16 cardboard Waldo cutouts was entered into the prize drawing.
Kids lined up to choose names out of a bag, and Words owners Jonah and Erin Zimiles and Event Coordinator Sara Nevius handed out prizes to the winners. Those whose names weren't called scored a spiffy red-and-white striped T-shirt cookie courtesy of . (Not a bad consolation prize!)
"We had 157 entries," said Nevius. "People had a good time playing, and that was our mission: to make sure people enjoyed themselves and learned about businesses in town."
Twenty Maplewood businesses -- including , , , the and more -- donated a variety of prizes. Brother and sister Mateo and Sofia Quintero won the grand prize, a complete set of Where's Waldo books.
