Columbus Day, Town Meetings, BOE Debate in the Week Ahead

See what's going on this week in Maplewood and South Orange.

Monday will kick off with Columbus Day, which means State, local government and courts will be closed. Click here to see what will be open and what will be closed.

The Maplewood Township Committee will meet for a public session at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at the Municipal Building, 574 Valley St. 

At the last meeting, the Committee voted to lower the speed limit of Valley Street to 25 miles per hour from the South Orange Border to Millburn Ave.

They also gave developer Daibes Gas one last chance to get their affairs in order before bidding their project over to another company.

Over in South Orange, Village President Alex Torpey will hold office hours on Monday Oct. 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. at 76 South Orange Ave. 3rd Floor.

The South Orange Village Board of Trustees will hold a conference agenda meeting on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the SOPAC loft at 1 SOPAC Way. 

At the last meeting, the South Orange Board of Trustees unanimously passed a resolution adopting pre-qualification regulations for the rehabilitation of South Orange Village Hall. Village Hall has since moved across the street to 76 South Orange Ave.

The League of Women Voters will be holding a Board of Education candidate public forum on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the Maplewood Middle School auditorium.
