100th Birthday Party, Street Fair, Art Walk and More This Weekend in Maplewood

If you are looking for some fun and exciting weekend activities for the family, there are plenty of local events to choose from.

Walter J. Kelly of Maplewood invites friends and neighbors to his home to celebrate his 100th birthday on September 28. 

Family, friends, neighbors (old and new), Columbia High School class of 1933, and former co-workers of Gefken’s Florist, Rimmele Flower Shop, Chubb and Son and Our Lady of Sorrows Church and School are invited to an Open House at Walter’s home at 557 Summit Ave in Maplewood on Saturday, September 28 from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. to celebrate his 100 years of a life well lived.

The Second Annual South Orange Street Fair will be held on Sunday, Sept. 29 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“Please come out and enjoy local artists, crafts, vendors, live music, dancing, great food, games and a whole bunch of stuff for adults, kids and the whole family so make sure to come down for that,” said South Orange Village President Alex Torpey.

The Maplewood Village Alliance (MVA) and Maplewood Department of Cultural Affairs will host the 2nd Annual Maplewood Art Walk & Music Fest on September 29 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Maplewood Village. 

Once again, downtown streets will come alive with nearly 40 local artists, photographers, and jewelry makers displaying and selling their handcrafted and original work.

Viva Z Club, Zumba fitness dance studio, will hold a grand opening and fundraising event for breast cancer research on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 10 a.m. Viva Z Cub is located at 1874 Springfield Ave. in Maplewood.

The Community Coalition on Race has partnered with the Maplewood and South Orange Libraries to bring an opportunity to learn and talk about civil rights, nonviolent action, and creating a more inclusive society. 

Join the Community Coalition on Race on September 28th at 2 pm for a screening and community discussion of Freedom Riders, a film that documents the story of people—black and white together—who test and challenge segregated buses and facilities in the South in 1961. The event will be held at the Maplewood Library.
