Carrie the Musical, HarvestFest and More This Weekend in Maplewood

See what's going on in Maplewood and South Orange this weekend.

If you are looking for some fun and exciting weekend activities for the family, there are plenty of local events to choose from.

The weekend kicks off on Friday night with Carrie: The Musical presented by terACT Theatre Productions. The first performance debuts on Friday, Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now.

The performances come just in time for Halloween. Adapted from Stephen King’s classic novel, Carrie: The Musical focuses on a misfit with telekinetic powers who is bullied by her classmates and oppressed by her fanatically religious mother. After being humiliated by her classmates at the prom, Carrie destroys everything in her path.

Tom Rush will perform at the South Orange Performing Arts Center in South Orange, NJ, on Friday, October 11, in support of his newly released live 2-disc CD/DVD, Celebrates 50 Years of Music, on the Appleseed Recordings label. Co-headlining the show is another performer with roots in the Sixties, John Sebastian, former leader of the Lovin' Spoonful, solo artist, and, coincidentally, a sideman on several early Rush recordings. 

The Maplewood Library Foundation invites residents to take part in “Death in the Stacks,” a murder mystery this Friday, Oct. 11.

At 7:30 p.m. someone will be murdered at the library, located at 51 Baker Street in Maplewood. It will be up to you to unravel the mystery.

The event is for adults only, 21 and older with adult beverages and food for $85 a person.

The Springfield Avenue Partership will be holding its Fifth Annual HarvestFest featuring local businesses, food, music and entertainment.

HarvestFest will be Saturday, Oct. 12 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Hilton Library Branch at 1688 Springfield Avenue. The event is sponsored by The Springfield Avenue Partership, Overlook Hospital and Walgreens.

The rain date will be the next day, Sunday, Oct. 13.

The Maplewood Woman's Club EMD Garage Sale that is being held Saturday, Oct. 12 and are asking the community to help them raise money to fund their charitable  organizations. The Interfaith Hospitality Network is their special project for this year.  The sale is being held at one of their members' homes at 71 Tuscan Road, Maplewood from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm. They will also accept donated items on Saturday morning for their sale.
