Maplewood local Brian Crowell and his father Wayne Crowell (the former Maplewood fire chief) have teamed up with Ron Glass to create a 6,500 square foot facility set to feature workout areas, training, showers and lockers. East Side will provide space for do-it-yourself workouts, cardio circuits, and personal training sessions. Classes in cardio, strength training, and group exercise will be added in 2010. The 5 am weekday opening time will allow commuters to come for an early workout, take a shower, and then catch the nearby jitney to the train station, while childcare will allow parents to work out while their kids are nearby.

I just joined this gym and I have been to so many others and none can compare! Ron and Brian have been so amazing and helpful! Very clean and open feeling! Amazing and its right in my town!

The trainers are friendly and helpful, even with first time weight lifters. The atmosphere is welcoming. Its the best gym in the area.
There are two issues:
You will sweat a lot because its so hot. I've been a member since last fall and the air conditioning has never been turned on. Some fans would be a great addition.
Also, if you have decent hearing, the sound system is almost always too loud.
