The National Housing Institute (NHI), a group of more than 30 of the nation’s leading scholars and experts on housing and urban policy, is an independent, non-profit organization “dedicated to fostering decent, affordable housing and a vibrant community for everyone.”
For more than three decades, the NHI has done original research on topics ranging from preventing homelessness to shared-equity home ownership, managing neighborhood change, and saving subsidized housing.
The group publishes Shelterforce, the oldest housing and community development magazine continually published in the U.S.
The group advocates for progressive, high-impact housing and community-development policies and practices, focusing on these needs through the lens of social and economic equity, racism, poverty, health, the environment, education and sustainability.
