This new deli in town is run by Scott Clawson, a Columbia High School graduate, who is a proud supporter ofMore firefighters, Elks and vets. Patronized by many neighborhood contractors, the "Home of the FAMOUS Sloppy Joe" offers breakfast, sandwich platters, eight kinds of subs (including veggie), cheese steaks and daily specials. It also offers catering services for schools, firemen and football parties.

The Rotary Club is a group of volunteers who meet on a weekly basis, fundraise and run numerous service projects inMore Maplewood. They are deeply involved in many of the projects and events that make Maplewood a great place to live. They support the Memorial Day Parade, Columbia High School Scholarships, Little League, Boy Scouts, Family Alliance, Camp Merry Heart, the YMCA and more.

This volunteer organization is one branch of a worldwide network that encourages community engagement, goodwill and peace.

 

South Orange Maplewood Education Foundation

Founded in 1987, the South Orange Maplewood Education Foundation (SOMEF) is a 501(c)(3) organization that raisesMore money mostly through private donations to fund programs and activities in local schools that aren't covered by the school budget. Deborah Prinz is the executive director. She has an office in the Board of Education building.

Its biggest ongoing project is to fund teacher grants for classroom projects in schools throughout the district. Past projects include a campaign to end anti-GLBT bullying and harassment at Columbia High School and yoga at Maplewood Middle School. $170,000 has been given out since 1999. Teachers apply in the fall.
