This neighborhood non-profit group has helped to revitalize the Springfield Avenue business district, creating aMore pleasant shopping environment and encouraging new businesses. The Partnership serves the community with such activities as promotional events for local businesses, aiding storefront improvements, keeping the sidewalks clean, and conducting workshops for business owners. The Partnership is run by a board of trustees consisting of local business owners, township officials, and residents.

In addition to the usual police business of protecting and serving, the Maplewood Police Department regularly reachesMore out to the community. Their auxiliary branch, composed of civic-minded Maplewood citizens, is very active (prospective volunteers can contact them at MPA690@comcast.net or  973-762-3400, ext. 437).

Each year, the department hosts the National Night Out Against Crime event, which is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, encourage participation in local anti-crime programs and strengthen police-community partnerships. Noted crime fighter Batman showed up too in 2008 (actually it was a sergeant from the force dressed up).

In 2007, the department shifted to a gleaming new facility on Springfield Avenue. The chief is Robert Cimino.
