Girls' middle school softball team goes 6-3.
The following was submitted by Villagers coach and parent Alex Nicholas. The 2013 Maplewood/South Orange Villagers Fast pitch girls’ Middle School softball team, which plays in the Suburban League of Essex County, just finished a very successful Spring season. During the regular season, the Villagers recorded 6 wins and 3 losses. They had some big wins, topping Millburn 17-0 and Nutley 20-2. The team also beat Montclair 5-2 in a tight pitching duel and suffered some competitive losses to Cedar Grove and Caldwell. Last weekend in the single elimination playoffs, the Villagers defeated Belleville 10-7 in the quarter finals and Bloomfield 15-9 in the semifinals to advance to the Championship game against West Caldwell/Caldwell on Monday…

Jets running back Mike Goodson was sent to a Morris County jail following his arrest on drug and weapons charges in Denville Friday. Goodson, 25, was the passenger in a GMC Yukon stopped in the left center lane of I-80 West when a tow truck came upon them and called 911 early Friday morning, according to multiple reports. The tow truck driver reportedly was concerned about the intoxicated condition in which he found Goodson and the driver of the Yukon. Olivia Baker is singled out for achievements at Penn Relays.
Columbia High School junior Olivia Baker, who was named the Most Outstanding High School Girls Athlete of the Meet for Relay Events at the Penn Relays last month, is in the May 13 issue of Sports Illustrated. Baker is featured in the magazine's 'Faces In The Crowd,' for her performance at the 119th Penn Relays in Philadelphia, where she helped rally the Cougars from a six-second deficit in the 4 x 800, according to SI. The Cougar's time was the third fastest in New Jersey history and the top high school finish in the nation this season. Baker also ran a 53.5 to anchor Columbia's fourth-place 4 x 400 team.
