Obama Winning Election ... Among Coffee Drinkers

7-Eleven '7-Election' promotion currently has president leading Mitt Romney 60 to 40 percent.

  The results are in ... sort of. Anyone who has stopped by the two 7-Eleven stores in Maplewood (at 752 Irvington Avenue or 1954 Springfield Avenue) this election cycle may have noticed the red and blue cups available for your morning coffee. The world's biggest convenience store chain has since Sept. 6 been running its third "7-Election" campaign and thus far, things have looked good for the president. Either that, or Democrats drink a lot of 7-Eleven coffee. As President Barack Obama and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney prepared to square off in their first debate, by Wednesday Obama (the blue cup) was leading with 60 percent of "votes."   Police Report Rash of Burglaries As summer drew to a close, six homes and two businesses in Maplewood were burglarized, according to Maplewood Police. Residents reported burglaries on Elmwood Avenue, Boyden Avenue, Tiffany Place, Highland Avenue, Orchard Road and Franklin Terrace.    Woman Punched Train Conductor, Pulled Emergency Brake Nadine Canty, 48, of Plainfield, allegedly punched a conductor and pulled the emergency brake of a train heading to Summit, affecting South Orange and Maplewood commuters. Canty was charged with aggravated assault, criminal mischief and interference with transportation, said NJ Transit spokeswoman Nancy Snyder. The conductor, who wasn't identified, got into an argument with Canty before she punched him, …

7-Eleven Offers Free Coffee Friday

CofFree Day at 7-Eleven stores offer a free large coffee between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Friday.

Who wouldn't like a nice free, hot cup o' Joe in the morning to start their day? Well, if you're a hot coffee guzzler who needs your morning caffeine fix to keep your eyes open, then Friday is your lucky day! On Friday, more than 8,000 7-Eleven stores will be offering a free large coffee between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. Maplewood has two 7-Elevens: one at 1712 Springfield Ave., and the other at Parker and Irvington Avenues. They will be offering customers a free 20-oz. cup of coffee with a coupon for 75 cents off future coffee purchases. Construction to Start on 7-Eleven Near High School

Project has attracted controversy for more than two years.

  Construction should begin "any day now" on a new 7-Eleven store located at the corner of Valley Street and Parker Avenue across from Columbia High School, according to the developer's attorney. "We are ready to go, as soon as permits are pulled," said Louis Rago, attorney for Ali Enterprises, LLC. Rago recently appeared before the Maplewood Zoning Board of Adjustment to clarify whether a provision in the developer's agreement that stipulated that construction could only take place in summer, to minimize disruption during the school year, was a condition of approval.
