Tim Squyres, a longtime Maplewood resident, has been nominated for an Academy Award for Film Editing for the "Life of Pi." The film also has been nominated for Best Picture and Best Director for Ang Lee. Squyres, Lee's longtime editor, was previously nominated for an Oscar for editing Lee’s “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.” The four other nominees in the category are editors for Argo, Silver Linings Playbook, Zero Dark Thirty and Lincoln. 'Life of Pi' —edited by a Maplewood resident — is playing in town. But Pittsburgh is the closest place to catch 'Beasts of the Southern Wild.'
The nominees for the 85th Annual Academy Awards were announced Thursday, giving movie-goers a little more than six weeks to catch up on the year's top films. This year's Best Picture list is nine motion-pictures-long. 'Life of Pi,' edited by nominee and Maplewood resident Tim Squyres, is, fittingly, playing in town -- as are Zero Dark Thirty and Silver Linings Playbook. Over at SOPAC in South Orange, you can catch Django Unchained, while Les Miserables (starring best-actress nominee and Millburn native Anne Hathaway) is playing in Millburn.
