Man is allegedly responsible for Maplewood armed robbery in December.
The Maplewood Police Detective Bureau announced on Tuesday the arrest of a man suspected in the robbery of the Bank of America on Maplewood Ave. last December, according to Sgt. Christopher Black. Thirty-one-year-old Grady Louissaint of Irvington was arrested by Orange Police on unrelated charges on Sunday, said Black, and then held on the Maplewood warrant. In the December 22 incident, Louissaint allegedly passed the teller a note stating he had a gun and instructed the teller to place money from her drawer into a plastic bag. Sunny skies and balmy temps brought folks out in droves.
Saturday was the first day in what seems a very long time that truly felt like spring. With crystal blue skies, bright sunshine and temperatures hitting 60 degrees, people were outside as much as possible to take advantage of it. In Maplewood Village, Girl Scouts from Troop 568 (Jefferson School) were doing a brisk business in cookie sales next door to Kings. Down in front of Bank of America, a group of teens were hosting what appeared to have been a highly successful bake sale -- judging by the near-empty trays at mid-afternoon -- to raise money for cancer research. The Columbia High School Robotics Team, fresh from the Spring Fling Robotics Festival at South Orange Middle School, set up shop in front of St. James's Gate Publick House …

Man allegedly stole more than $1K from Bank of America on Maplewood Avenue last weekend.
Maplewood Police released a photo Friday afternoon of a man wanted in last Saturday's robbery of a Bank of America on Maplewood Avenue. The man is described as a black male 6-feet tall with a thin build and a moustache and is 25 to 30 years old, according to Sgt. Christopher Black. The man was wearing a gray sweat suit and a gray and red baseball hat with the word "cougars" on it. Anyone who recognizes the man is asked to contact the Maplewood Police Department at 973-762-3400. Maplewood Police said no one was injured in this morning's incident at Bank of America.
This article was updated at 6:45 p.m. Maplewood Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are investigating a robbery that took place at the Bank of America on Maplewood Avenue Saturday morning. According to police, no one was injured in the incident that occurred at 10:41 a.m. The alleged robber — a man — mentioned a weapon to the teller, according to Sgt. Joseph Guglielmo, but no weapon was seen. He reportedly made off with several thousand dollars, said Guglielmo. "The suspect is at large and police are following some solid leads," said Guglielmo. "We will catch this guy." Patch will update the story as more information is made available.

Yes it was the old Maplewood Bank & Trust company. My mom used to work there so many years ago when I was a kid. It is brazen especially since the police patrol that area by car and on foot.   more ›
