Beatrice Miller on Landing Record Deal, Leaving Maplewood

In an exclusive interview, the teen star talks about her future, and what she will miss most about her hometown.

  When Maplewood resident Beatrice Miller competed last fall on The X FACTOR, it was clear to all who watched it was only a matter of time before she became a superstar. Now, it seems the 14-year-old is well on her way. Miller is the first artist to be signed with Hollywood/Syco Records, a new collaborative label arrangement between Disney's Hollywood Records and Simon Cowell's Syco Records. (Hollywood Records is also home to teen-pop stars Selena Gomez, and "X Factor" judge Demi Lovato, according to an article on Yahoo.) Ken Bunt, President of the Disney Music Group said in a press release the label was "thrilled" about being able "to showcase Beatrice's incredible talent." Tonight: Bea Miller at "Girl Be Heard" in NYC

Maplewood "X-Factor" teen performs at The Cutting Room for launch of girl empowerment group.

Beatrice Miller, the Maplewood middle schooler who won America's hearts as a contestant on The X-Factor last fall, will perform tonight at The Cutting Room in New York City at 6 p.m. Miller will join host Nigel Barker for the launch of "Girl Be Heard," a non-profit organization that uses theater as a vehicle to empower young women to be leaders and raises awareness of issues affecting girls. Previously known as Project Girl Performance Collective, the organization has changed its name and is rebranding to reflect its evolution from a local, grassroots group to a global movement, according to a press release.   Update, 11/22, 9:07 p.m.: Beatrice Miller is leaving THE X FACTOR, after being voted off the show on Thanksgiving night. "I just want to tell my sisters that I love them and I'm sorry," said an emotional Miller, who barely choked back tears. "You're a true star in my eyes," said Miller's mentor, Britney Spears. Miller was ranked in the bottom two contestants in viewer votes after Wednesday's performance, and had to participate in a sing-off with the other lowest-ranked contestant, Cece Frey. Miller sang Sarah McLachlan's "I Will Go Down With This Ship."   Update, 11/15: Beatrice Miller made it through another round of competition on Thursday night's THE X FACTOR, as two other acts were eliminated on the live show. Miller garnered enough viewer votes after her performance on Wednesday night's show to secure a position as a top ten finalist.
