Baker Wins Meet of Champions Crown in 400
Columbia freshman stars, but the track meet is postponed due to lightning.
After going more than a decade without having an individual Meet of Champions winner in the spring, the Columbia girls track team got its second winner in as many years. Freshman star, Olivia Baker, continued her dominant track season, winning the 400 meter state championship, with a time of 54.66, in Matawan on Thursday. Through the first 200 meters, Baker was near the back of the pack in fifth place. But down the stretch, Baker left everyone chasing her, as she exploded passed the competition to win by a considerable margin. Baker has yet to lose in her freshman year in the 400, and became the first ever Cougar girl to win the 400 at the MOC. “I get out smooth but fast.
