Political Web site PolitickerNJ predicts that should Richard Codey (D-Roseland) lose his position as Senate President, Secretary of the Senate Ellen Davenport would be out of a job as well. The job of Secretary of the Senate, Politicker writes, traditionally changes along with the leadership. Codey is currently locked in a fierce battle for the Presidency with Stephen Sweeney; many political observers predicting Sweeney, who was recently endorsed by Newark Mayor Cory Booker, will win. If so, Davenport, a Democrat who served as mayor of Maplewood from 1994 to 1997, would probably have to leave her office along with Codey. Read the full story: As goes Codey, so goes Davenport.

Community Coalition on Race honors Jasey, features Governor at fundraiser
Saturday night's event, "Celebrating Integration: Building Inclusive Communities," may have been designed to honor Assemblywoman Mila Jasey, but Governor Jon Corzine nearly stole the spotlight. The Governor—who is in the midst of a hotly contested reelection campaign—lingered at the event, held at the Women's Club of Maplewood, posing for dozens of photos and shaking hands. Despite a busy evening schedule of three stops—one of which would take him to Ocean County—Corzine spent over an hour in Maplewood, even though this is friendly territory where voter registration is heavily Democratic. Former South Orange Trustee Terriann Moore-Abrams is running for County Register on the Republican ticket.
Though Terriann Moore-Abrams appeared to have left public office when she finished her four-year term as a South Orange Trustee in May, she's now running for the county-wide office of Essex County Register. Running on the Republican ticket, Moore-Abrams, a Chief Essex County Counsel, will face off against whomever the Democrats choose to replace their original candidate for the office, Newark's Central Ward Democratic Chairman Dwight Brown, who died of a heart attack in July. According to the Essex County Clerk's office, the Democrats have until Sept. 16 to make a decision, but their new candidate is expected to be announced later this week.
