Maplewood Deli & Grille and Crane's Are Readers' Picks

It was a close race, with two local faves coming out on top

Maplewood has enough top-notch delis to satisfy most tastes, from classic to gourmet. Two that are located in the Village -- Maplewood Deli & Grille and Crane's at Highland Place -- are clear standouts, according to our poll. One voter wrote, "Maplewood Deli and Grille Rocks. Crane's Brings Back Dinners-to-Go

Popular take-out dinner menu is up and running at Crane's at Highland Place.

When Steve Crane first introduced dinners-to-go at the old Crane's Deli, it was a rousing success. "We were selling around 30-35 dinners each night," said Crane.  Eventually, though, the logistics made it challenging and the dinners came to an end, much to the dismay of many regulars who had come to depend on the Ropa Vieja, the meatloaf and more. But now that Crane's has joined forces with Highland Place -- meaning a larger kitchen space and later hours -- dinners-to-go are back.  "Our customers kept asking us for them," Crane said. The menu is available from Tuesdays through Fridays from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.  All dinners come with an entree and two sides, serve between 1-2 people, and cost $17.95.
