Red Carpet Premiere at Columbia

The short movie filmed at the high school featured local students.

The red carpet was rolled out for students and parents this past Wednesday night at the premiere of the locally movie about teen dating abuse, "Crossing the Line." The 15-minute movie was filmed at Columbia High School following the story of Megan who struggles with school and lacrosse through an abusive relationship, which is not just physical but emotional as well. The movie needed to be updated because "the last one didn’t even have cell phones in it,” said production co-chair Shari Harrison. “We know how important it is to speak to kids in a way they understand.” Featuring more than 40 local students and the high school girl's lacrosse team, the short film was funded by grant from The Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey with the same …

Teen Dating Abuse Movie to Premiere at CHS

Maplewood and South Orange students served as extras in film, which was shot locally.

“Crossing the Line,” a new educational video on teen dating abuse awareness and prevention, premieres on Wednesday, May 30 at the Columbia High School (CHS) auditorium. Created by the National Council of Jewish Women/Essex (NCJW/Essex), the video features Maplewood and South Orange students as extras, and some scenes were filmed at the high school and other Maplewood locations. "Columbia High School has been a supporter of the program for the past twenty years," said Diane Beni, NCJW/Essex co-chair of the video production. "It is the only high school that has a Teen Dating Abuse club where students train to give presentations in the middle schools." Scenes were filmed at CHS and Underhill Field.
