Reward Offered in Hit-and-Run Death of Maplewood Man

Douglas Hodgson was struck by a white Acura in 2011 while changing a tire in Newark

A cash reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest in the 2011 hit-and-run death of a Maplewood man. The Essex County Sheriff's Crimestoppers program will pay up to $5,000 for information on the death of Douglas Hodgson, 47, killed in Newark at 11:45 p.m. on Feb. 27, 2011 while he was changing a tire on his car. Hodgson was stopped on Routes 1 and 9 South when he was struck by a white 1998 Acura CL, which fled the scene. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Acura should have damage to the passenger front fender and mirror and a missing front passenger parking lot, Sheriff Armando Fontoura said in a press release. Two canine trainees were put through their paces in downtown Maplewood.

  Officers from the Essex County Sheriff's Department were conducting a training exercise in Maplewood Village Tuesday afternoon. The officers were putting Mac ("like Mac 'n Cheese") and Donna through their paces. One officer said Donna was on the job for just two days. It looked as though she was getting the hang of it.
