Maplewood Rec Department Hosts Senior Picnic

Popular annual event drew a large crowd.

The Maplewood Recreation Department, with help from Deputy Mayor Kathleen Leventhal and Township Administrator Joseph Manning, hosted its 35th Annual Senior Citizen Picnic at the Maplewood Community Pool on Sept. 6. There were 70 seniors in attendance, said Recreation Director Keith Knudsen. The picnic featured hamburgers and hotdogs with all the fixings along with salads and ice cream, catered by Freeman’s Fish Market. Participants enjoyed swimming in the pools, live music from “Funtime Band” and country line dancing with Ann Gross.  "It was a wonderful event this year," said Knudsen, and we are looking forward to next year’s picnic."

Shop the Sidewalks of Maplewood

This Friday and Saturday, the Village hosts its annual Sidewalk Sale.

Maplewood Village will be the scene of a two-day Summer Sidewalk Sale today and tomorrow, beginning at 10 a.m. A host of shops and restaurants will offer special deals and delicious food. Be sure to stop by to score some deals on clothing, gifts, wine and food. Just a few examples: Freeman's Fish Market will be serving their succulent lobster rolls outside, Village Burger will be selling BBQ on the sidewalk, and Words Bookstore will have a cart of bargain books outside both days of the sale. It is also a perfect opportunity to go Waldo hunting. As Patch reported earlier this month, Maplewood is hosting a month-long celebration of Waldo and local businesses in conjunction with Where’s Waldo publisher Candlewick Press, the American Press …
