Maplewood Lax Club's Men of the Year

Ramos has award named for him, Whelan named Man of the Year

The Maplewood Lacrosse Club completed its 54th season this past spring, with its eighth grade boys team reaching the semifinals of the Northeastern Conference Tournament in the B-flight, as one of the highlights of the season.  Two other major highlights included Mike Whelan receiving Maplewood Lacrosse Man of the Year honors in his sixth and final season coaching in the club, and club president Steve Ramos having an award named after him — and awarded to him. Both awards are very similar. The Man of the Year Award is presented to the person who shows outstanding spirit, enthusiasm and dedication to the sport of lacrosse. Daugherty is Patch Top Senior Female of Spring

Girls lacrosse star was second on the team in scoring this season

The first time someone speaks to Columbia High School’s Emma Daugherty about sports, they will be amazed at how many more layers she has to her. While she was the varsity lacrosse team’s second leading scorer this season, with 35 goals and eight assists, lacrosse is not her life and may not even be the biggest part of it. “It’s definitely a part of my life that I love, but I wouldn’t say that it’s my top priority. It’s one of my top priorities,” Daugherty said. She’s involved in fundraisers like Relay for Life this past weekend at West Orange High School, she was a volunteer tutor at Tuscan elementary school during the winter during the past two seasons, and she has even gone to Mexico with her brother and mother to help build a house. …
