Community Coalition on Race co-hosted event at Morrow Church.
The South Orange/Maplewood Community Coalition on Race, along with First Baptist Church of South Orange and Morrow Memorial United Methodist Church, co-hosted an interfaith observance and Volunteer Fair on Jan. 21 at Morrow Church in Maplewood. The event featured guest speaker Junius Williams, Director of the Abbott Leadership Institute at Rutgers, Newark and music from a jazz ensemble and the combined choirs of local churches. A Volunteer Fair and reception followed the observance.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is Monday, Jan. 21. There are many opportunities to serve the community on that day; check the National Day of Service website for activites in your area. The annual MLK Silent Peace March at Maplewood Middle School faced wind gusts, rain, some snow and — finally — a burst of sunshine.
Marching for something you believe in is not a fair weather game, as the students of Maplewood Middle School certainly learned today during the Michele Turner Annual MLK Silent Peace March. "It was wonderful," said Grade 6 Team Teacher Richard Palmgren. "A little rain, a little snow. It gave them the whole experience of marching." Indeed, more than 700 6th, 7th and 8th graders paced silently from their school through Maplewood Village and back as the weather migrated from driving rain to chunky snowflakes amidst 35 mph wind gusts and tumbling temperatures.
