Five Citizens to Receive Maple Leaf Awards

Maplewood Civic Association will honor five residents April 14

  The Maplewood Civic Association has selected John Branigan, Carol and Jim Buchanan, and Chris Dickson and David Wagner, co-founders of Rent Party, as recipients of the 2013 Maple Leaf Award. "The recipients of this year's awards were selected after a thorough review of the many worthy individuals who were nominated," said chair Mary Devon O'Brien in a letter. "John, Carol, Jim, Chris and David, however, have demonstrated the generosity of spirit and selfless gift of time and talent that epitomize Maple Leaf Award recipients.' The Award will be presented at a Mimosa Brunch to be held April 14 at 1:30 p.m. at L’Affaire on Route 22 in Mountainside. Maple Leaf Awards Nominees Wanted

Honoring volunteers who make Maplewood a great place to live.

  The Maplewood Civic Association is currently seeking nominees for the 2013 Maple Leaf Awards. The awards will be presented at a luncheon on Sunday, April 15 at L'Affaire in Mountainside. The Maple Leaf Award recognizes residents who have provided outstanding, unpaid volunteer work the Maplewood community. Although the committee would prefer Maplewood residents, non-residents who have spent many years doing volunteer work for Maplewood will be considered. Volunteer activities may span many years or be an intense shorter term involvement of several years.  Past recipients have been involved with a number of organizations and activities including Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, First Aid Squad, Strollers, PTAs, churches and temples, coaching of …

Maple Leaf Awards Honor Service Organizations

On April 15 at L'Affaire in Mountainside, the Maplewood Civic Association honored the Elks, Kiwanis, Lions, Rotary and VFW.

Maplewood's storied Maple Leaf Awards broke with tradition this year. First, the event was not held at the Woman's Club as the ownership of that building is in transition. Instead the event took place at L'Affaire on Route 22 in Mountainside on Sunday, April 15, with a "Mimosa Brunch" at 1:30 p.m. Second, the Awards — which are sponsored by the Maplewood Civic Association — are usually given to two or three individual volunteers in the community. However, this year, the Awards recognized many, many volunteers by honoring the town's volunteer service organizations — the Maplewood/South Orange Elks, the Maplewood Kiwanis, the Maplewood Lions, the Maplewood Rotary and the Maplewood VFW.
