Got Reservations? Maplewood Restaurant Week is Here

From March 3-9, sample some of the best eats in town.

Praise from The New York Times is always nice (in its recent review of Wild Ginger, the paper called Maplewood "a town overflowing with interesting restaurants"), but locals have known for years that our little hamlet boasts some of the best and most eclectic food in the state. That's why the return each spring of Maplewood Restaurant Week is such a highly anticipated event. This year, Restaurant Week runs from March 3-9 and is sponsored once again by the Maplewood Village Alliance, Springfield Avenue Partnership and Maplewood Chamber of Commerce. More than 20 participating restaurants throughout town will offer customers everything from prix fixe to tasting menus and discounted lunch or dinner specials, according to a press release. (…

Dickens Village: Maplewood, in Miniature

Saturday marks official opening; Santa arrives and Christmas tree is lit

It might be hard to believe, but Dickens Village has been an annual holiday tradition in Maplewood for 51 years. Since 1961, countless awe-struck children and their equally enchanted parents have visited the quaint, miniature houses that artfully depict scenes from Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. In their scale and beauty, and in the spirit of warmth and community they engender, the Maplewood Dickens Houses represent the small-town feel that continues to entice new generations of residents to call Maplewood home.  "Sometimes I think the Dickens Houses might be the real reason I moved here," said Michele Bessey, owner of Perch Home. The houses officially open for viewing on Saturday, kicking off the holiday season in town. Santa will …

I was in Maplewood Village to pick up Chinese food and I decided to walk through Dickens Village. Suddenly, I saw something that really bothered me-a sign that said Holiday Tree. What is a holiday tree?????? That is not even a real term but a made up term. There is only one type of tree and that is a Christmas tree. A symbol of the holiday of Christmas. What holiday is a holiday tree celebrating…   more ›

Event rescheduled for Friday, Nov. 2.

The following is from an email sent Sunday night by Rene Conlon of the Maplewood Chamber of Commerce. We have postponed the Halloween Parade in Maplewood Village to Friday, November 2, 3 –5 pm due to the pending storm.  We do not want to drain township resources during clean up on Wednesday. Ready Your Costumes: Maplewood's Halloween Parade is Almost Here

Highlight of the town's social calendar Is on a Wednesday -- that's Halloween Day.

The Maplewood Annual Halloween Parade and Costume Contest is one of those events that make people feel lucky to live here.  With hundreds of creatively costumed little ones (and some impressively garbed grown ups) strolling Maplewood Avenue, collecting candy from local merchants, it really does feel like a scene out of classic hometown Americana.  Hosted by the Maplewood Chamber of Commerce and the Maplewood Village Alliance, this year's parade will be on Wednesday, October 31 from 3 p.m. to to 5 p.m. in Maplewood Village, from Baker Street to Durand Road. Here's the drill: consider walking to town, or be prepared to park a distance away. A word of warning: the crowd can get intense. If you have wee ones who are easily scared or …

Chamber Networking Event Draws a Crowd

This year's Maplewood Chamber Business Card Exchange offered a chance to network, learn and win an iPad 3 — yes, that's iPad 3!

Anybody who's anyone in Maplewood business was at the Maplewood Chamber of Commerce Business Card Exchange at the Burgdorff Center for the Performing Arts on Tuesday evening, Feb. 28. The room was so bursting — with 100 attendees or more — and boisterous that it was hard to keep the crowd quiet for John Harvey's brief networking training session “The Other Side of the Card." The Township of Maplewood and the Maplewood Police Department were two of the more interesting tables at the event. The Township was promoting business-friendly services such as the upcoming Maplewood Restaurant Week and a March 9 workshop on how to do business with the town. The PD provided information on neighborhood watches, business safety and more. Besides the …
