Maplewood Hosts Healthy Luncheon for Employees

Part of Maplewood Loves Wellness.

  The Maplewood Health Department hosted two township employee luncheons Tuesday as part of the Maplewood Loves Wellness initiative. Around thirty township employees enjoyed a tasty lunch and got important information and tips on Heart Healthy Eating from Maureen Smith, cardiac rehabilitation nurse manager at St. Barnabas Medical Center. Smith discussed how to eat for optimal cardiac health; she also answered a variety of questions from audience members on topics including whether organic milk is a good option for the money (answer: not necessarily), and the importance of regular cardiac screening. Wellness Week Comes to Maplewood

Week of activities will culminate in Wellness Fair in Memorial Park on October 13.

  More than 30 different local businesses, organizations and experts throughout Maplewood will offer free open houses, classes, services and demonstrations on topics in health, nutrition, exercise and finance during the township's Wellness Week from October 8 - 13. Part of Maplewood Loves Wellness, a new township-wide community awareness program, the action-packed week will culminate with a Wellness Fair in Memorial Park in Maplewood on Saturday, Oct. 13, from 12 p.m. - 3 p.m. , and a 5K run/walk to support the Maplewood Volunteer First Aid Squad.  Maplewood is partnering with Barnabas Health-Saint Barnabas Medical Center and the New Jersey Mayors’ Wellness Campaign on the initiative. Locals Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness

Maplewood's GenWealth hosted first annual event in support of breast cancer research.

  On Saturday morning, more than 70 women, men and children participated in the first annual GenWealth Walks for Hope, a three-mile walk through Maplewood Village to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research. The event raised a total of $10,000 for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation® (BCRF). The walk was led by Risa Olinsky, owner and president of "Count on Yourself Coaching," and GenWealth Group's founders Michael and Cherie Leanza and team members Braden Shipke and Kim DiBlasi. The Leanzas were inspired to launch the walk when DiBlasi's mother was diagnosed last year with Stage 4 breast cancer. Walkers shared stories of how breast cancer has touched their families. Maplewood Women Will Walk to Fight Breast Cancer

A trio of local women want you to join this home-grown event.

Three local women are organizing Maplewood Village’s first charity event dedicated to breast cancer awareness.  GenWealth Walks for Hope, sponsored by Maplewood’s The GenWealth Group, Inc., is a home-grown event. Co-hosted by Cherie Leanza, GenWealth’s Vice President of Marketing and Risa Olinsky, a Maplewood resident,  personal coach and owner of Count on Yourself Coaching, the walk will be held on Saturday, Sept. 29th at 8:30 a.m. (the raindate is September 30).  “It's nice to have the opportunity to give back,” said Leanza, who along with her husband, Michael, launched GenWealth in the Village in 2008.  The idea for the walk came about when Leanza's employee, operations director Kimberly DiBlasi, learned in 2011 that her mother, Sandra …
