Maplewood Commuters to Jitney: Don't Abandon Us

Commuters are annoyed with jitneys that don't wait for late NJ Transit trains.

Since New Jersey Transit train schedules changed last fall (and Hurricane Sandy damaged some trains), evening rush hour trains have been frequently late arriving in Maplewood. Maplewood Concierge Company Faces Uncertain Future

After 14 years, NJ Transit has put concession out to bid.

When the Maplewood concierge service was first introduced at the town's train station in 1998, it was hailed as a unique private/public partnership and the first in the state. Naraine has even helped commuters find their cars when they have forgotten where they parked. Now, the MCC is in a public bidding process with New Jersey Transit, from which it leases the space, that will …

Maplewood Commuters Face Fewer Parking Spots

Dunnell Road construction eliminates spaces near train station.

Maplewood residents might want to budget a few extra minutes into their morning commutes. Construction on the former police station building at 125 Dunnell Road has meant the elimination of roughly 20-25 commuter permit parking spots in the lot next to the former station. "Those are gone forever," said Thomas Malavasi, township engineer. "It will push people out further" from the station for parking, he said. In addition, roughly a dozen street spaces in front of the former station are unavailable during construction, which Malavasi said would last around a year.  The township had anticipated the loss of the lot, Municipal Lot #3, which is now owned by the site's developer, J.G. Petrucci Co. The township announced the lot's closing …
