Young Actors Learn What It Takes to Make It on Broadway

For encore, intensive summer workshop with Musical Theatre Conservatory presents showcase in NYC.

There was only one thing Jessica Borenstein, a rising star, needed for her NYC debut: Her two front teeth. But that didn’t stop the pint-size performer from shining on the stage of the Laurie Beechman Theatre as part of a summer showcase of talent presented by the Musical Theatre Conservatory. Over the past three weeks, aspiring actors studied the craft of musical theatre with New York City talent, including Dwayne Clark (Spiderman, In the Heights) and Steven Beckler (The Producers, Beauty and the Beast); casting director Cindi Rush; and South Orange’s Mary Brienza (Comedy Central). 'Spiderman' Actor to Share Craft with Budding Performers

Local Broadway stars will spend part of the summer teaching at the Musical Theatre Conservatory.

South Orange resident Dwayne Clark is thrilling Broadway audiences eight shows each week in Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark. But between June 25 and July 13 he’ll take time from his busy schedule to share his expertise with aspiring performers as a guest artist with Livingston-based Musical Theatre Conservatory this summer.  “Besides Spiderman, Dwayne has been in a string of great shows – Urinetown, Tarzan, In the Heights,” shared MTC’s artistic director Randy Kravitz Elman. “Our students really get inspired by working up close with someone succeeding in the way they hope to some day.” Two other local residents with Broadway bona fides are on the Musical Theatre Conservatory summer faculty as well. MTC Seeking Performer Kids and Teens for NYC Cabaret

A three-week intensive workshop will end with performances by Musical Theatre Conservatory students at city theater.

Musical Theatre Conservatory is seeking talented performer kids and teens for its NYC cabaret. The conservatory’s three-week intensive workshop in musical theatre culminates on July 14 at NYC’s Laurie Beechman Theatre. Learn with professional actors Dwayne Clark (Spiderman, In the Heights) and Steven Beckler (The Producers, Beauty and the Beast); and South Orange’s Mary Brienza (Comedy Central). A faculty full of top-notch theatre professionals will then bring lessons learned in Livingston to the stage in the heart of NYC’s theater district. Scholarship Auditions Offered for Summer Performing Arts Program

Musical Theatre Conservatory will provide tuition assistance for aspiring performers.

Musical Theatre Conservatory is holding scholarship auditions for prospective students for its summer theatre intensive workshop.This three-week performing arts camp located in Livingston is open to young people ages 7-17 and runs from June 25-July 14. Geared toward developing the complete performer, the program includes classes in acting, theatre dance, vocal technique, and song interpretation as well as stage combat, comedy improvisation, TV/commercials, voice-overs and auditioning. The session culminates with performances in New York City. “Our goal is quality instruction in a positive, nurturing atmosphere,” offered artistic director Randy Kravitz Elman of West Orange.
