Kidnapping, Car Crash and Parking Debate Top Maplewood News

Here's what you missed this week in town.

  Maplewood - South Orange to Remember Ann Thompson Local resident, mother of three was memorialized at St. George's Church on Friday.   Maplewood Police Arrest Man for Allegedly Kidnapping Teen A 22-year-old Brooklyn man was arrested and charged with kidnapping and assaulting a 17-year-old Maplewood girl, according to Maplewood Police. The man, Abu Mamun of of 484 E. 4th St., allegedly removed the girl by force from her Maplewood home on Nov. 6 and brought her to the Brooklyn residence they formerly shared. Police located the girl and returned her to her Maplewood home.   Tax Assessment Letters Will Be Mailed Next Week Maplewood property owners can expect to find new property assessments in their mailboxes soon. Village Alliance Responds to Parking Proposal

MVA president explains the organization's role in proposed changes to parking in village.

  On Tuesday, the Maplewood Township Committee (TC) voted to introduce an ordinance to change some of the parking rules in Maplewood Village.  In short, the ordinance would change all of Maplewood Avenue from 1-hour to 2-hour parking, and would also increase parking times in some lots. The full list of suggested changes can be read here.  If the TC approves the resolution at its Dec. 18 meeting after a public hearing, it will take effect sometime in January of 2013. The proposal has attracted controversy, with some commenters asking whether the changes will in fact address the town's parking issues and will have a positive or a negative effect on business traffic for merchants in the Village.
