Tonight! Broadway Comes to Seth Boyden in Parent/Staff Talent Show

2nd Annual Seth Boyden Spotlight shines a light on local talent that has made it big time.

From the Oakland Ballet to Broadway, some parents at Seth Boyden Demonstration School have serious creative credentials. Take Charlie Pollock, for example. Pollock has originated roles on Broadway including Dwayne Rhodes in 9 to 5: The Musical. He's also played Bobby Strong on Broadway in Urinetown. But the bright lights of Broadway haven't gone to Pollock's head. Indeed, he'll be playing Maplewood later this month, performing a song from the musical "Once" at the 2nd Seth Boyden Spotlight Parent-Staff Talent Show on Friday, January 25 at the Seth Boyden Auditorium. Tim Gunn Will 'Make It Work' at School Event

Seth Boyden series to feature Project Runway star.

Hot on the heels of a sold-out event with "This American Life" star Ira Glass, the Seth Boyden Series: a conversation with culture has announced the upcoming appearance of Project Runway’s Tim Gunn live on stage in the Columbia High School auditorium on Sunday, March 17. Gunn will be featured in conversation with NY1-TV reporter and South Orange resident Budd Mishkin. Tim Gunn is the Fashion Dean at Fifth & Pacific Inc (formerly Liz Claiborne Inc).  He also serves as co-host of the six-time Emmy-nominated "Project Runway," a reality-based fashion design incubator, the eighth season of which broke all previous seasons' ratings records. 'Dancing Classrooms' Sweeps Seth Boyden Off Its Feet

The NJPAC program for fifth graders teaches ballroom dance and social graces.

Merengue. Rumba. Foxtrot. Swing. Polka. Tango. These are not necessarily the dance moves that Maplewood and South Orange parents are anticipating their children will be bringing home, but, for the last three years, Seth Boyden Demonstration School's fifth graders have been doing just that. Seth Boyden has been the beneficiary of NJPAC's Dancing Ballrooms program since the spring of 2011. Dancing Classrooms Director Pierre Dulaine explained during a visit in 2011 that the program is based on respect, compassion and humor. "You have to respect the children at their level," said Dulaine. "What is important is that one does not abuse the power of an adult" when teaching.
