Cops Arrest Seton Hall Students For Drugs

Two Seton Hall University students were arrested

South Orange police confiscated 45 bags of marijuana, related drug paraphernalia, and a pair of brass knuckles from a Seton Hall dorm room on Wednesday night. Police arrested Russell Bailey, 20, and Darrell Barnes, 19, both Seton Hall students. South Orange police arrested the two men after Seton Hall security asked them to intervene. Security officers entered Bailey's dorm room to follow up on reports a strong marijuana smell. Security officers discovered what police called a "large quantity" of marijuana and called the authorities. University officials did not comment on which dorm Bailey lives in or what possible consequences the two men face if convicted. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.

Stranger Approached, Tried to Pick Up South Orange Camper

Police ask public's help finding woman.

An eight-year-old girl was approached on Monday afternoon by a stranger who said she was there to pick up the child. The girl, a camper in the Baird day camp program, was in the field adjacent to Meadowbrook Place at approximately 1 p.m., when she was approached by a white woman in her 60s, described as having curly grey hair, a medium build and about 5'4". The camper reports the woman engaged her in conversation and said she was there to pick up the camper. The woman was last seen walking south across the field toward the Baird Community Center. The police department and the Baird Community Center staff are actively investigating the incident. Anyone with information regarding this matter is urged to immediately contact police. The South …

Action by Quick-Thinking Carjacking Victim Leads to Arrest

Woman rams sheriff deputy's car to alert him to crime.

An alert 21-year-old woman thought fast when her car was carjacked Saturday around 2 p.m. in South Orange and she was forced by the carjacker to drive to Newark. While driving through Newark, the woman saw an Essex County sheriff’s vehicle and got a sheriff’s officer’s attention – by ramming the vehicle with her car, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and South Orange Police Chief James Chelel.  Following the crash, the suspect ran from the carjacked car and the officer pursued him through Vailsburg Park before losing sight of him.  The county Homicide Task Force and South Orange police continued investigating the incident and within four hours arrested Isaiah Green, 22 of Newark.  Green has been charged with robbery, …
