Easter was back in fashion on Sunday as services were held at churches throughout South Orange and Maplewood on a glorious spring morning. On South Orange Avenue, girls in frilly dresses and boys in pint-size navy blazers searched for eggs under the sweeping pink branches of a weeping willow on the lawn of St. Andrew and Holy Communion. Inside the church, spring colors and a rich legacy for finery complemented traditional services highlighted by music and dance. With a bonfire burning as darkness fell Saturday night in South Orange, the Rev. Sandye Wilson, rector of St. Andrew and Holy Communion lit a white candle before entering a hushed and darkened church to begin the Easter vigil service. The liturgy ushered in Easter, joyously celebrated today by Christians around the world. This morning at St. Andrew and Holy Communion the church springs alive in color and spirit, with traditional services highlighted by music and dance. An orchestra with brass, wind, string and timpani will accompany a full choir (and children's choir). And the joyful grace of sacred dancers will add a modern spin to the Easter celebration.
