It's Spring Break for South Orange - Maplewood School District (SOMSD) students, from Monday, April 8 - Friday, April 12. School is back in session on April 15. It's a quiet week for Township Committee meetings and events. Mayor Vic DeLuca will hold office hours on Tuesday, from 7-8 pm at Town Hall. There are two big Maplewood events this weekend: The 2013 Maple Leaf Awards, sponsored by the Maplewood Civic Association, is on Sunday at 1:30 pm at L'Affaire in Mountainside. The 36th Annual South Orange/Maplewood Interfaith Holocaust Remembrance Service is on Sunday at Seton Hall University at 4 pm. The Week Ahead in Maplewood
Passover has begun and Easter is next Sunday. For many people, and for SOMA schoolkids, Friday is a holiday. The new commuter train schedule is in effect: NJ Transit announces trip-time reductions for four Midtown direct trains to South Orange Maplewood municipal offices are open Friday. It looks to be a quiet week, with a short school week and holidays galore. Enjoy it!

On Tuesday, Feb. 5, the Maplewood Township Committee will meet at the municipal building at 574 Valley St. On the agenda is appointing Michael Dingelstedt to Chief of the Maplewood Fire Department, a final vote on the chicken raising ordinance and a resolution to pilot a reciprocal pool agreement between Maplewood and South Orange. The SOMSD Board of Education meets tonight at 7:30 p.m. at 525 Academy St. On the agenda is discussion of the district's 2013-14 budget. The Maplewood Citizen's Eco Forum is on Thursday, Jan. 30 at the Maplewood Memorial Library. Hosted by the township and the Maplewood Green Team, the event will provide information about current sustainability initiatives in town. Resident's input is welcome on such topics as natural resource preservation, waste management and more. Remember, property taxes are due Friday, Feb. 1. The Maplewood Farmers Market is open today from 2-7 p.m. on Springfield Avenue at Indiana Street. The Maplewood Township Committee will meet on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Maplewood Town Hall. The meeting will feature an information session with representatives from Appraisal Systems, Inc., which is conducting the township's tax reassessment. The public will be able to ask questions about the process in person, via email livemeeting@twp.maplewood.nj.us or by phone (973-762-8120, ext. 4902 or 4903). The Maplewood Farmers Market is open today from 2-7 p.m. on Springfield Avenue at Indiana Street. Tonight at 7:30 p.m. the South Orange - Maplewood School District will hold a Board of Education Meeting at 525 Academy St. The agenda is attached here. Remember, all South Orange - Maplewood School District Schools will have a day off on Wednesday for Yom Kippur. On Thursday from 7:30 - 9:00, author Don Lattin will share his book Distilled Spirits at Words Bookstore. The Maplewood Community Band will be recruiting interested musicians to play in their ensemble on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in DeHart Park.

It will be a quiet week for meetings in Maplewood this week as only the planning board will be in session. The meeting is scheduled for 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Maplewood municipal building, 574 Valley St. Next week, the Maplewood Township Committee will meet on Tuesday, July 17 at 7 p.m. at the municipal building.
