Township to Purchase Woman's Club for $1 Million Maplewood Township will purchase the beleaguered Maplewood Woman's Club property for $1 million -- half its listing price -- according to a statement made by Mayor Vic DeLuca at Tuesday's Township Committee meeting. We started the week with an early look at Revolution Home, the new antiques and artwork store on Baker Street that opened to the public for a preview last weekend. The sneek peak took place in the shadow of the Maplewood Village Alliance's Open Market event, a day of shopping featuring events including a pipe and drum band marching on the village's streets. On Tuesday, we started our weeklong investigation into the odd smell in South Mountain Reservation (the last report said the smell was caused by temperature changes in the water). In news of a less stink-driven nature, we featured photos of the Soma Artisan's Guilds inaugural show and Brooke Lefferts looked at the ins and outs of bringing children to concerts. Looking back on the week, we notice that there was a whole lot of dancing going on. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
On a hot, wet week like the one just past, it would be reasonable to assume most residents would stay indoors and still, soaking up air conditioning. Why then did our cameras capture so many people in motion? On Monday, we warned you that the week ahead would be hot. And that with the libraries beginning their furloughs, there would be one less public place to stay cool. Meanwhile, we featured video of break-dancers popping and locking. Tuesday saw the debut of Brooke Lefferts's new parenting column, Carpool Candy, which, judging from our reader comments, is already a hit.
