Maplewood Officials Will Hold Live Friday Press Conference

Will discuss preparations for the upcoming blizzard; this morning at 11 a.m.

  Maplewood Township officials will hold a live press conference on Friday at 11 a.m. at Maplewood Town Hall to share the township's emergency plans for Winter Storm Nemo, said Mayor Vic DeLuca. The meeting will be broadcast live on Channels 24 and 35 (Fios/Comcast).

Winter Storm Takes Aim at Essex County

Latest forecast from National Weather Service calls for foot of snow or more.

A major winter storm in Essex County could start as early as Friday morning and bring strong, gusty winds, heavy snow and near white-out conditions, according to the National Weather Service Thursday.  Snow accumulations of 10 to 14 inches are possible along with wind gusts up to 45 mph, the report said. The major storm warning has been issued for the county from 6 a.m. Friday to 1 p.m. Saturday, the weather service reported Thursday. The heaviest snow is expected to hit Friday evening into Saturday morning, forecasters said. Visibility of one-quarter mile or less is possible at times.  The weather service warned of the potential for treacherous driving conditions and localized power outages brought on by the winter storm.  Essex County …

Maplewood Issues Snow Removal Guidelines

Be prepared for Winter Storm Nemo.

In preparation for Winter Storm Nemo, the Maplewood Department of Public Works has issued snow removal tips, which are posted below. There is still plenty of time to get prepared for the storm, which has the potential to blanket our area in heavy snow Friday and Saturday. Home Depot in Vauxhall reported brisk sales of ice melt and shovels on Thursday afternoon, but the store is still well stocked with those items as well as snowblowers and other gear. Plan ahead when snow is predicted to cover roadways. Do not drive unless you absolutely need to. Leave yourself plenty of extra time to get where you are going if you do need to drive.
