Maplewood Village was the scene of an extraordinary gathering of women learning how to maximize their entrepreneurial endeavors and careers on Wednesday, at the inaugural Women's Summit held at Highland Place/Crane's. Locals celebrated with artwork, exercise and entertainment.
Maplewood celebrated the Fourth of July with the annual early morning July 4th 5k, as well as arts and crafts, games, food, the circus and more. The Township gave out medals to winners in everything from ice-cream eating to baking to foot racing. The results of the annual July 4th art project remain on display in Memorial Park. The day will culminate with music and the fireworks display in Memorial Park after sundown. Enjoy images from the day here and feel free to upload your own!

From dinosaurs to mess-making to story time, there will be no shortage of things to do at your local library this summer.
Both the South Orange and Maplewood Public Libraries are doing their best to keep you and your kids busy this summer with a variety of education clubs and events – even dinosaurs. Sign-ups for the Summer Reading Programs at the Maplewood Libraries are going on now. Both the Main Library and the Hilton Branch are offering prizes for reading or attending summer programs. Sign-ups for the South Orange Library have begun, and readers can join at any time. According to Halliday, 1,000 kids signed up last summer and together they read 9,550 books. “The goal this summer is to reach 10,000,” said Halliday. “We have so many things going on [this summer],” she said, that it is difficult to pick just one thing she is most excited about. Maplewood's Memorial Day parade was a giant red, white and blue patchwork of community.
Maplewood celebrated Memorial Day with a procession of red, white and blue saluting neighbors lining the sidewalks in our own version of Main Street, USA. Advance Placement Studio Art students from Columbia High School, Arts High School in Newark and Governor Livingston High School in Berkeley Heights show off their work.
From now through January 8, 2012, local art lovers can see what students in three local high schools are up to in their Advanced Placement in Studio Art classes in FRESH 4.0 at 1978 Maplewood Arts Center. Over 50 works of art created by students from Columbia High School in Maplewood/South Orange, Arts High School in Newark and Governor Livingston High School in Berekley Heights grace the walls of the gallery in Maplewood. In its fourth year, the annual show, curated this season by 1978 board member Onnie Strother, serves an important purpose. "The kids get to see what the other AP's are doing," says Strother.
