Orange Man Among Criminal 'Cops' Caught in Alleged Robbery Spree

Pair arrested in Mendham Twp. May 26 dressed as law enforcement and targeted residents based on their immigrant status, prosecutor says.

Two men celebrated Memorial Day in the Morris County Department of Corrections after being charged in three robberies while allegedly impersonating police officers and targeting residents based on their immigration status. Vincenzo Viola, 37, of Orange and 34-year-old Robert P. Capriglione, 34, of Clifton were each charged with first-degree robbery; second-degree burglary; third-degree criminal restraint; third-degree criminal coercion; fourth-degree impersonating a law enforcement officer and third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance, acting Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Multi-County Probe Busts Violent Gang Drug Network

Morristown shooting began seven-month investigation into drug, gang and weapons activity.

Seventy law enforcement officers from four counties arrested 24 individuals Friday morning in a drug, gang and weapons sweep that began with an investigation into an attempted murder in Morristown last fall. Prosecutor Robert A. Bianchi considered the bust "the largest in Morris County history." Bianchi detailed the police action at a press conference Saturday at the Morris County administration building surrounded by representatives of the crime task force that worked on the case, including prosecutor’s offices from Warren, Essex and Union counties, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, Morris County Park Police, and 14 municipalities, including 11 from Morris County.
