Deadline to Run for School Board Approaching

Candidates for school board must file nominating petitions by March 2.

The deadline to file nominating petitions to run for the South Orange-Maplewood Board of Education is March 2 at 4 p.m, and the election is scheduled for April 21.     

Prospective candidates can obtain a “School Board Candidate Kit” in the business office of the Board of Education, 525 Academy St., Maplewood, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on weekdays. Published by the NJ School Boards Association, the kit contains a sample nominating petition and information about legal qualifications for school board candidacy and the role of the school board member. Also included in the kit are information sheets on the NJ School Ethics Act, important dates in the election process and information on briefing sessions for candidates.
