Maplewood Submits for Sustainable Jersey Certification

Township is one of of 47 Jersey Municipalities to make submission.

Maplewood is one of 47 New Jersey municipalities to show that they have met the submission standards for Sustainable Jersey. The finalists, who will receive certification from the Sustainable Jersey program, will be announced later this month.

Meeting the standards means Maplewood has proven it meets a set of qualifications for energy efficient, environmentally friendly standards. The program looks at energy and efficiency, health and wellness, land use and transportation, waste reduction, local economies, natural resources and other factors.  In order to receive certification, a municipality has to show that they have achieved the balance of the required actions, meeting the minimum of 100 action points set by the program.

The Sustainable Jersey program is an initiative of the New Jersey State League of Municipalities’ Mayors Committee for a Green Future, which is chaired by Maplewood deputy Mayor Fred Profeta. The other Essex County municipalities that made submissions are Bloomfield, Livingston, Montclair and South Orange.
